re.venture Receives Building Permit for Kränzlin Battery Storage Park

KRÄNZLIN, DEUTSCHLAND – 16. September 2025

Berlin-based energy developer re.venture GmbH has received the building permit for a large-scale battery storage facility in Kränzlin, Brandenburg. The project will be the largest battery storage park within the e.dis grid area and one of the largest approved in Germany.

Spanning 1.5 hectares, the facility will deliver 60 MW of power with a storage capacity of 240 MWh—enough to supply the city of Neuruppin for 12 hours. Its modular architecture allows for seamless expansion up to 480 MWh, ensuring adaptability to future energy requirements.

The storage system is designed to relieve and prevent regional grid congestion, ensuring reliable energy supply for industry, municipalities, and households. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with commissioning planned for 2027.

“Every year in Brandenburg, significant amounts of renewable electricity are curtailed because the grid cannot absorb the generated energy. The facility in Kränzlin will be able to store up to 96 GWh of locally generated energy annually that would otherwise be lost. The Kränzlin battery storage project demonstrates how ecological, economic, and social benefits can be combined,” emphasized Jens Kompauer, Founder & CEO of re.venture GmbH.

The construction of the park will generate significant economic momentum: the need for costly redispatch and curtailment measures will decrease, system costs will be reduced, and the region’s attractiveness as a business location will increase. Through business taxes and voluntary participation models in cooperation with the municipality, a large portion of the value creation will remain local and directly benefit the region. bleibt ein Großteil der Wertschöpfung vor Ort und kommt der Region direkt zugute.

“For the district, Kränzlin sends a strong signal: more energy security, less curtailment, and noticeable relief for our grids,” said the District Administrator of Ostprignitz-Ruppin. “The project combines regional value creation with reliable energy for businesses, municipalities, and households.”

Technologically, the facility sets new standards: two dedicated substations with direct connection to e.dis’s 110 kV level ensure seamless grid integration. Its modular design allows for future expansions as needed. Thanks to Fast Frequency Response, the storage system can balance grid fluctuations almost in real time—a significant advancement over conventional gas turbines, which require several minutes to respond. Additionally, the system can provide essential grid services such as primary control reserve (FCR), secondary and minute reserve (aFRR/mFRR), and black start capability.

“With Kränzlin, we are deploying cutting-edge storage technology. Thanks to millisecond-level response times, the system balances fluctuations almost instantly—and can even support grid restart in emergencies,” added Ingo Ernst, CTO & Co-Founder of re.venture GmbH.

Thanks to its modular architecture, the capacity can be flexibly expanded to up to 480 MWh to meet future energy needs. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with commissioning planned for 2027.

re.venture GmbH, headquartered in Berlin, develops projects for sustainable energy generation and storage solutions to make energy usage efficient, flexible, and grid-friendly. In addition to its own large-scale projects, re.venture also supports partners in development and implementation to jointly contribute to a resilient energy system and the energy transition.

Earlier this summer, re.venture successfully developed, financed, and commissioned the Falkenberg solar park in Brandenburg’s Elbe-Elster district—demonstrating its commitment to both energy generation and storage solutions in the region.
